DRM is silly, but I wish we could move past the "everything should be free because it's my birthright" vs. "everything should stay exactly as is because I like excess cash"--in neither model does the artist get worthwhile compensation. An increasing segment of the younger population think that music, books, etc. should be free without asking how the creators can pay rent and eat. The "communal and private" dance features such a public display but with people listening to their own MP3 players. Communal and private or just islands of humanity a la the morning subway ride? It won't win awards for web design and it's not the most user friendly, but it sure beats headline after headline of crime stories I could care less about!
